If you see someone on one of these bikes, speeding along a singletrack, then you couldn’t be blamed for doing a second-take, as it is in mountain biking terms, pretty unusual in design. Charge have taken this MTB back a few years to a time of slim lightweight steel frames, giving it a comfort factor that is hard to match for a hardtail and great responsiveness and speed of reaction, with predictable handling. You can find the Charge Duster in Mid, Hi and Eleven versions.

This is a broader rimmed hardtail designed with the usual Tange thin steel tubed frame that has become part of Charge bikes’ basic construction. It is specified with big 29er wheels, wide rims and tyres and a ride that makes it suitable for any open trail riding or for a variety of commuting use. The Charge Cooker gets good reviews for ease of riding and simple fun-to-ride satisfaction, while delivering something a little different from the usual suspects.

With this bike Charge have seriously entered the women’s bike market with a design that is quirky, retro, stylish and functional, with a hint of performance all at the same time. Not surprisingly, its got the attention of the cycling press and it will be interesting to see if it gives the company some proper inroads into this market, or whether its neither one thing nor the other, although its label is ‘hybrid’. Perhaps we can expect a whole series of Charge Hob bike developments to suit the different parts of the ladies bike market.
